Drift Wood

So I’ve received a complaint that this blog hasn’t been updated in a while. You know who you are. It’s true though, I’ve been artistically lazy. A while back I bought some drift wood from an estate sale for like a buck. The elderly woman who had died was an artist named Rose whose paintings could be found in various restaurants and local joints around Gun Lake and Middleville. She went to Florida every year and collected lots of drift wood, sea shells, and other cool free stuff you’d find on the ground. I felt really dumb when I had painted “Ahoha” instead of “Aloha” on the surfboard and had to paint over it. I almost posted it until my mom said, um, that is not how you spell it, Amy. Anyway, enjoy the Mediterranean, lucky. And for the rest of you.. May God pour out His blessings on you today!

SurfGirl Magazine Feature

I am beyond stoked and so thankful to be featured in the current issue of SurfGirl, Britain’s most widely-read surf and beach lifestyle publication for women. And to top it off, my artwork made the cover! So fun 🙂

ImageImageImageJust wanted to mention that originally I had also included the following in my interview question, “What are you main passions in life?”:

I’m passionate about the love that I’ve experienced through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. During the past 4 years, I’ve been faced with many difficult challenges, including the loss of my father. God’s truth and steadfastness is the only thing that has pulled me through these times. Whatever temporary struggles you face on earth are nothing compared to the life a believer has waiting for them in heaven. I’m also passionate about people. I enjoy getting to know people thoroughly and learning their stories. Loving people is what really matters in life, and we are given the perfect example of how to love through Jesus, whose love is unconditional and unchanging.

Ok, Thanks! To God be the glory for all good things! -Amy

Sketch from the Past

Today I found a marker drawing from when I was 14! I was actually kind of dazzled by its concept, so I’ve started to re-draw it. “How would I draw this now, 13 years later?”, I thought. You know, I think it’s easier to be creative when you’re younger. When you sit down to draw, you don’t over-think it. It isn’t this self-imposed pressure of hey, right now I need to come up with something really great and draw it perfect. You just have more fun, ’cause no one else’s gunna see it. I’d put money on the idea that.. your best pieces of writing, art, or whatever it is that you do, are the ones you’re most embarrassed about.

Pastel Portrait

I was looking through some vintage hawaiian/ south pacific travel posters and loved the portraits and colors, so I just had to make my own!

Pineapple Fields

finished up a colored pencil drawing of a girl walking through pineapple rows to a sunrise and good surf.. guess you could say i’ve been daydreaming a bit lately. surely this scene exists somewhere in Hawaii, right? included some soft pastels in the water and outlined in paint pen.

Drawing Session

Spent the morning sitting up on the deck drawing this surfer girl and drinking coffee. This was was drawn with sharpees and colored pencils- so fun! Scroll down to see the progress…
